Decided to go on a (free!) excursion with the university organization AEGEE, which organizes trips and cultural activities etc. for the students. First stop was Covadonga, followed by Arriondas, and Ribadesella! Spent the WHOLE day with Helen, Kathy, and Kate (girls I'd bumped into yesterday at uni!), and we had a great time!!! :)
Set off from Oviedo at about 9:00 or so, arriving in the village of Covadonga (among the Picos de Europa mountains) at around 11:30. Covadonga itself is considered to be the birthplace of Spain, as it was here, in 722 AD, that the Visigothic King, Pelayo, defeated an army of the Moors, established the embryonic Kingdom of Asturias, and therefore set in motion the Christian Reconquista of Spain. Pretty damn prestigious I'd say!!! :)
Santa Cueva

Throw a coin into the pool and make a wish!!! :)

After Covadonga, we then headed to Arriondas (about half an hour to the north of Covadonga), which--in itself--is only a small place, but we went to the shops, got some food, had a picnic, and had great fun in the park!!! :D
